Cinnamon Bay, St John, US Virgin Islands
"Cinnamon Bay, St John" is located within the
US Virgin Islands National Park.
Could it get any better than that! This is just not camping…this is Caribbean camping in a National Park on a gorgeous beach, in the Virgin Islands. (As they say…..”HELLO”.. or.. “DUH”…) You have to go here, this is Cinnamon Bay on St John and it’s picture perfect!"
Now…I’ve said this before when I was telling you about
Maho Bay Campgrounds.
If you like a secluded, natural environment, and don’t mind bugs and lizards, tree frogs, no A/C, clothes that may feel a little damp most of the time, cool water showers and night singing birds, then this place is for you! If that doesn’t seem appealing to you then
Or, you could just do what I did and visit for the day and enjoy the natural beauty, the beach, the great snorkeling (check out Little Cinnamon-a short hike) and fun outside dining.

Cinnamon Bay on St John has 31 baresites, 55 tents and 40 cottages. This is great, because if this is your first time camping you have some options. (I’d probably start with the cottage!) All the units are designed to be only a 2 to 5 minute walk to the beach or other facilities. The baresites are on a first come first serve basis, as far as location, and some are secluded and some are nestled together with others so you can get to know the other campers.
Facilities at Cinnamon Bay:Front Desk : This is where check in and check out happens, public phones are available, safe deposit boxes are located, lockers and message center. Open 8am-8pm.
Central Bathhouses : Cinnamon Bay St John offers centralized restrooms only and cool water showers (this is camping.)
T’ree Lizard Restaurant : Offers breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a bar. There is a seasonal schedule for dining, so if you go on the off season (May 1-December 14) check on the hours. Breakfast is served 830am-10am, lunch is 1130am-2pm and dinner is 530pm-8pm. (You are on “island time” here, everything is slow and unhurried!)
Beach Shop : This great shop sells it all. Swimsuits, gifts, games, t-shirts, sunscreen etc. You can also rent snorkel stuff. Hours are 830am-430pm.
Water Sports Activity Center : Rents sailboats, sea kayaks, windsurfers and sailboards and also has trained staff for lessons if needed.
Archeology Lab and museum: Located on the beach, displays of artifacts from the past.
